Shiny Happy Centres: Visualising Performance with Speed and Ease

Understanding performance trends is essential for any organisation aiming to make informed, strategic decisions. For City & Guilds, identifying patterns in individual centre performance is particularly valuable. These insights help maintain standards and support customers across a diverse network of centres (e.g. schools and colleges), strengthen support for training providers, and ultimately contribute to the organisation’s mission of improving vocational education and learner outcomes. However, gaining these insights quickly—and in a way that is accessible to non technical users—can be difficult, particularly when traditional reporting requires manual analysis or specialist knowledge. To address this, I developed an interactive dashboard using R Shiny that enables users to explore centre level performance trends with speed and clarity. The application leverages the ggiraph package to enhance interactivity, allowing users to interrogate visualisations dynamically and uncover insights more intuitively. This talk will demonstrate how the dashboard was built, the design choices behind it, and how it supports more efficient, data driven decision making across the organisation.
